Interview with Animal Communicator and Author Karen Anderson

by Annette Munnich

Annette: I know this is a general question Karen, but what kinds of things do you think our pets wish we understood about them?

Karen Anderson: First and foremost that they have needs that may be different than our needs.  We sometimes forget they are animals and have a need for being the dog or cat or horse that they are.  We tend to ‘humanize’ them and don’t give their biological, physical or emotional needs priority. I run into a few clients who make sure they are meeting their animal’s requirements but most of us have a long way to go in this area. As much as we like to think of them as our babies we need to remember that they have animal needs too.  Boredom is the number one source of behavior problems.  Make sure you provide good physical and mental stimulation and you will have a harmonious animal family. Brain challenges such as putting part of your dog’s daily ration of kibble in a treat ball. They have to roll it around to get their food.  If you have indoor cats then you are their entertainment center. Make sure you are providing them with something fun, interesting and different.  Don’t leave the same old stuff out.  Cats get bored in about 5 minutes. Rotate empty boxes, bags with no handles or empty cartons for them and take some away to be reintroduced later.  Be creative, most cats are happy with the lid from the hairspray bottle or a ball made out of foil.

Annette: Besides feeding, petting and playing with our animals what other ways can we use to reassure and express our love?

Karen Anderson: Stop stressing out about your animals!  Stress and worry are negative emotions and send out negative waves to our animals.  Turn that negative wave into a positive by shifting your perspective.  I challenge you to stop right now and think of what you are stressing about over an animal. Perhaps an illness, a behavior problem or even if you are leaving town.  Stress and worry can make matters worse.  Think of that song, “Don’t worry, be happy!”.  It’s corny but it’s so true when it comes to our animals.

Annette: I never thought of it that way. I think that is very important to realize how stress and worry in and of itself can be a problem in the relationship with our animals… Is it true that our pets will over time reflect the same types of personality traits as their owners?

Karen Anderson: In some cases yes I think so.  Here is a good rule of thumb.  If you are happy, healthy, balanced and feeling good about yourself, your animals will too.  If you are sad, depressed, angry, unhealthy and feeling bad about yourself…your animals will too.  They are our barometers reflecting back what we put out into the world.

Annette:
What is the best way for people to introduce a new animal into the home… especially if there are other pets already?

Karen Anderson: Go slowly.  Most introductions are done way too fast.  Animals are scent oriented and allowing them to smell each other before they actually see each other is the best way to start.  Kittens meeting other kittens or puppies meeting other puppies are usually the exception to this rule.  Remember animals think with animal minds.  Territory, space, food, water, toys, are all claimed by the resident animals.  I use baby gates to separate them too.  Let them smell first then let them see each other with a barrier up so no one can touch the other.  Try to think positive about how you would like them to respect each others space.  When the time is right, after observing their behavior, then they can have monitored ‘visits’.  Take your time and go slowly. The slower the better in most cases.

Annette: Really good to know! Do our animals stay connected to us after they pass on? What generally happens and how do they feel about us if we had to put them to sleep?

Karen Anderson: Absolutely yes our animals stay connected to us.  Even though their physical body may die their soul or energy lives on.  I call it transitioning because it really isn’t dying.  Some animals tell me they feel more alive now than when they were in their bodies.  As for their feelings of being euthanized, this is case by case.  But most of the time the animals are ready to leave their body especially if it is failing them.   They see death and dying as a natural stage in their journey and usually don’t make a big deal about it.  They usually only get upset when their human gets upset.  It does not change their love for us nor do they hold a grudge. Animals are quite forgiving even in the worst cases of abuse or neglect.  We have a lot to learn from them.

Annette: I had to put two of my dogs to sleep and am still traumatized by it. Your answer gave me some comfort. Can anyone develop the ability to communicate with animals?

Karen Anderson: I do believe we all have the ability to learn to to communicate with animals.  However I do believe that some people are just not open to the process so they would not have much success. But if you believe it can happen, are open to the process and love animals then it’s a snap.  Once you learn the steps it’s like any other new skill.  The more you practice the better you get.

Annette: Are you able to receive messages from wild animals and also smaller creatures such as fish or even insects?

Karen Anderson: All animals communicate with me through the same transmission of messages.  Wild animals are no exception.  I think of ‘Christian the lion’ and his love for his two humans.  Even years after returning Christian to the wild he still remembered them and showered them with affection.  All animals are capable of sending messages.  Fish and other aquatic creatures are very interesting to communicate with.  Understanding their world from their perspective has been so rewarding.  I generally don’t communicate with insects much but it is possible.  All living creatures have a soul and it’s the soul I connect with.

Annette: Please tell us a little bit about your book Hear All Creatures and what gave you the idea to write it?

Karen Anderson: My book is an inside look into the hearts and minds of the animals.  I share my first moments communicating with animals and how I learned to understand their messages.  Sometimes they will send me an image or picture of something and it’s up to me to figure it out.  I also included some of my favorite sessions with the animals.  Their incredible and sometimes heart wrenching messages still humble and amaze me. The idea to write a book came to me as I was touring the United States attending psychic fairs and expos. At each show I would speak before and audience and share some of my most recent sessions.  The audiences could not get enough of my stories and would beg for more.  Once I sat down to write it practically wrote itself.  The stories of the animals in the Afterlife seem to be the most popular.  So my next book will highlight some of my favorite sessions from the Other Side.

Annette: What was it like growing up being able to talk to animals and know what they thought and felt?

Karen Anderson: I thought everyone could understand the animals. It wasn’t until I was about 7 or 8 years old that my parents started to discourage me from ‘talking to the dog’. They didn’t quite know what to do with me and figured I had an overactive imagination.  Since I loved animals so much it was very easy to tap into their energy.  I think children are very open to these types of abilities as they don’t know they can’t.  I loved every minute of it and still remember some of the silly conversations I had with them.

Annette: Nice. Have you ever come across an evil animal? Do you believe in people or animals being evil?

Karen Anderson: I have met some very fearful and some extremely aggressive animals but not an evil one.  That is more for the humans in this world.  Animals will generally act out for some kind of instinctual purpose.  They live in the moment and are usually very happy as long as all their needs are met.  If an animal is fearful it is usually because it’s humans are living in the past and keep replaying past events in their minds.  Be in the moment with your animals. They are in a good home with lots of love, food, water and exercise.  Don’t live in the past.  It will help your animals move through their fears.

Annette: Thanks Karen for your very helpful insights.  I am eager to incorporate what I learned today in to our daily life with our ‘fur people’  ;)

Karen has teleclasses and CD’s to help you learn to communicate with animals.  Signed copies of her book are also available. Karen Anderson does private sessions by phone as well.  Find out more about Karen Anderson by visiting her website.

The Cranberry and Garlic Cure

The Cranberry and Garlic Cure

The Cranberry and Garlic Cure

The Cranberry and Garlic Cure is a small “miracle” I discovered in 2008. I was very sick with a particularly nasty virus that caused flu symptoms plus a total loss of my voice for two solid weeks. I could make no sound whatsoever… After one month had passed my voice was still not back to normal and I could feel the pressure of congestion in my head and chest. I went to the doctor twice over the course of this illness and was prescribed antibiotics. This was the sickest I could remember being for many years. I was better but not well…

Anti-Sticking Agent

I began to poke around on the internet and found some information on cranberries. The reason they are well known for curing bladder, kidney, and urinary problems is threefold. The first is that they are a natural antibiotic. Secondly, they deliver a great dose of vitamin C. Last, but definitely not least, Cranberries are a natural astringent and have anti-sticking properties…   The cranberry will make it possible for a person to kill the bacteria in these areas and pass it out.

Would This Work Throughout The Body…

So the question was… would this work throughout the body? Could the anti-sticking agent in the cranberry get rid of the congestion in my head and chest plus get the coating off my vocal chords? Off to Walgreens for a 5 dollar experiment that certainly could not hurt me. The first night I literally did not sleep due to the excessive drainage that was coming from my sinuses. It had been there so long it made my stomach sick. I also coughed up bad colored mucus from my lungs. The second day was better but more of the same. It took 3 days to clear it all.  Then I was well again.

Garlic?

Garlic is a powerful antibiotic and beneficial to the blood.  In fact, garlic is so powerful that it was used on spoiled meat in medieval times to prevent illness. This is called being anti-putrificant… and I knew that what was in my sinuses was putrid. I could smell it. Enough said. Garlic had also been used to treat plague. I was sold!

This is exactly what I did…

I used odorless garlic in a pill form and cranberry capsules sold as extra strength. My advice is to take one of each after dinner and hopefully the drainage will be slowing down in time for bed. Do not take in the morning unless you have no work or school that day. These are food supplements without dangerous side effects but still I take them by themselves and not with a handful of medications. I’d wait an hour before taking anything else but that’s just me… I am not a doctor and am not responsible if someone takes some cranberries and grows warts on their feet or turns purple or something. The capsules will deliver much more garlic and cranberry than you would want to eat or drink.

Prevention

I take cranberry caps 3 times a week to keep my immune system strong. If someone in my family feels like they are getting sick I give them a cranberry and a garlic right away. I have nipped many things in the bud by doing this. A few months back I had flu symptoms and a light fever but the next day I was fine. This cure costs under 20 Dollars and will save a small fortune in medicines and lost wages. If you have trouble with kidney, urinary tract or bladder infections take 3 caps a week and never get one again. Interesting note:  Cranberries are sometimes given to nursing home patients to take the odor out of their urine.

Applications

I have found relief with this cure from the following ailments:

  • colds
  • flu
  • other viruses
  • sinus
  • chest congestion
  • kidney, urinary tract and bladder infections
  • sore throat

Real Disclaimer: I am not a doctor and not responsible for any effects from the usage of these food supplements. I am also not trying to replace medical help when needed so do not sue me!

Pat Fitzhugh

Pat Fitzhugh

An Interview Bell Witch Author Pat Fitzhugh

by Annette Munnich

It’s my pleasure to come to know author and historian, Pat Fitzhugh, whose mother is related to the John Bell family by marriage.  Pat has researched the Bell Witch story extensively over the last three decades. He is an expert on the famous Bell Witch haunting that began in 1817 in Tennessee and is now one of the most well known paranormal stories in the US.

The haunting centered around the John Bell family and it’s story was the basis for the movie “An American Haunting” starring Donald Sutherland and Sissy Spacek made in 2005. To this date it is the the account of the only death ever to be caused by a ghost.

Annette: Thanks for making some time for me Pat. I have been looking forward to this interview. First question… how did you first get involved with the Bell Witch Story?

Pat: My mother read me the story when I was very young.  What intrigued me the most was the fact that it involves real people and real places,
and that there is a family relation, through marriage, several
generations back.  My mother also was from the area where the legend
took place.

Annette: Can you give us a little background on the Bell Witch? When did
it begin and why do you think the story persists to this day?

Pat: The Bell Witch was an entity that terrorized the Red River community
of Robertson County, Tennessee, especially the home and family of
John Bell, from 1817-1821 and for a brief time in 1828.  The entity
acted like a poltergeist in the beginning, but over time it developed
intelligence and the ability to speak clearly.  It also possessed the
ability to read minds, as well as predict the future.  The entity
said that it’s main intention was to kill John Bell.  It was also
averse to Betsy Bell’s (John Bell’s youngest daughter) engagement to
a boy who lived nearby.  After killing John Bell, the entity broke up
the engagement.

bell_witch

Annette: You researched Bell Witch for over 20 years. How did you become so fascinated with this paranormal tale?

Pat: This is my 31st year researching the legend, and my level of
fascination with it, as well as my determination to find and share
even more information, grows stronger each day.  Every answer that I
find yields more questions.

Annette: How close are the movies Bell Witch Haunting and An American
Haunting to telling the whole truth about what actually transpired?
Are they just sensationalized stories or based closely to the truth?

Pat: Both movies have good “scare value.”  However, as an author and
historian, my primary interest is historical accuracy.  I feel that
“The Bell Witch Haunting” follows the story more closely than “An
American Haunting” does.

Annette: Do you have a theory as to why the Bell Witch haunting began and what it’s purpose was if any?

Pat: Balance and flexibility are the most important traits that a
researcher can possess.  An absence of the former leads to bias; an
absence of the latter leads to nearsightedness and carelessness;
either will compromise the integrity of the research being performed
– and of the person performing the research.

That having been said, I have many different ‘possible’ theories
about the Bell Witch.  Some of them are paranormal, and some are not.
My “current theory,” as well as my opinion of the legend, changes
from time to time, depending on where my research takes me.  The only
constant to the legend is that the entity was very real, and very
frightening, to those who experienced it first hand.

bw-sketchAnnette: Your book is more than 400 pages.  How long did it take to write it and what can people expect to discover through reading it?

Pat: The actual writing of the book took about two years, although it represents 22 years of research (at that time).  The book contains historical footnotes, endnotes, appendices with explanations of key
terms and concepts, and even an index.  It contains all three versions of the legend (North Carolina, Tennessee, and Mississippi), and covers from 1817 until 1999.

It was the first book to tell the world about John Bell’s
excommunication from the church, and the first book to fully debunk,
through historical data, the myth that states Kate Batts was behind
the disturbances.  It was the first book to cover all three states’
versions of the legend.  It also shares many other key pieces of
information, including my theory at that time, for the very first
time.

Annette: Are there places to visit for people curious about the Bell Witch?

Pat: Most of the area where the legend happened is now on private
property, and the local residents are extremely vigilant with
trespassers.  The best place to get “near” the Bell Witch is the
Adams Museum and Archives Building in Adams, TN.  They have the last
surviving structure from the John Bell plantation, which is an
1810-era log cabin that was used as slave’s quarters.  Bellwood
Cemetery, nearby, is open to the public during the day and contains
the graves of many Bell family descendants.  There also is a cave
nearby.

Annette: Thanks so much for letting me interview you about the fascinating Bell Witch story. It’s been a real pleasure.

Villisca Axe Murder House Investigation

by Annette Munnich

On Saturday, January 10, 2009, B.R.U.T.A.L. Paranormal (Anthony and Jennifer Edwards, Herb Cook and Bob Cross) from Minooka, Illinois with Roland and Julz Saenz from Midway Paranormal Society Romeoville, Illinois conducted an overnight investigation at the Villisca Axe Murder House…

The Story

The Villisca Axe Murder House located in Villisca Iowa, is often included as one of the most haunted locations in the United States. It was voted as number one on the Travel Channel’s Most Terrifying Places In America. Villisca, Iowa is a small town in Montgomery County in the southwest corner of the state. This home is the site of eight unsolved murders from June 10th, 1912. Two adults,  Josiah and Sarah Moore, and their children, Herman, Katherine, Boyd, and Paul, were brutally murdered in their beds. There were two little girls visiting that night who were murdered as well, Lena and Ina Stillinger.

It is believed that the killer entered the house and hid while the family and their guests were out at a church function. Later that night after everyone went to bed the killer emerged and killed them all with an axe. It is a horrific crime that stuns the town and police had suspects that included Senator Frank F. Jones, Reverend George Kelly, Henry Moore and William “Blackie” Mansfield. The mystery remains, however, as to who murdered these people and why…

Read more about the crime, victims, and suspects…

The once flourishing town of Villisca is smaller today than it was at the time of the murders in 1912. The residents there were in favor of demolishing the Moore home and putting the tragic history behind them. Instead the house was purchased by Darwin Linn. The home has been restored and tours are available.

Paranormal legend and lore… This house is reported to be very active. Interaction with spirits of the children are common as well as doors that open and close on their own. Something more sinister and frightening is said to be in the house as well.

Jennifer Edwards B.R.U.T.A.L. Paranormal Minooka, Illinois

History-
On June 10th of 1912 in a small town in Villisca Iowa, was one of the most horrific murders of that era. 8 people were bludgeoned to death by an axe. There is 7 different suspects, no one was caught.
The Moore family was a very prominent family in Villisca. This was a family of 6. They were people of faith and went to church and church functions all of the time. Mr. Josiah Moore (Father) was a successful business man. Sarah Moore (mother) was active in the church and busy being a mother of 4. Herman Moore the oldest boy was 11, Katherine the only girl was 10, Boyd was 7 and Paul was 5.
On the night of the murder, the family went to a church program that the children were in. It ran a bit late and by the time it was over it was dark and almost 10 pm. Two friends of the children Ina and Lena Stillinger were supposed to walk to their grandmothers house, but it was dark and they were too scared to walk so they went to spend the night with the Moores. They all got home around 10pm and had milk and cookies and went to bed, never to awake again. According to the coroners they had all been killed around midnight, all killed by an axe. The murderer snuck into the house while they were at church. He waited for them to all fall asleep and when the midnight train went by, that is when he killed all of them. All 8 people Mr. Moore, Sarah Moore, their 4 kids and the two Stillinger sisters. He had went into the bedroom on the first floor off of the parlor and killed the Stillinger sisters frist, then he went up the stairs and killed Mr. and Mrs. Moore, then walked down the hall and killed their 4 children last. A total of 8 people all together. He then proceeded to eat breakfast leave the axe in the house with blood on it, and it happened to be Mr. Moore’s axe that he used to chop wood. The family and the Stillinger sisters were all buried in the Villisca cemetery. There was 7 possible suspects but no one was ever caught. The neighbor and Mr. Moore’s brother were the two who discovered what had happened first. It was a horrible crime that shook this small community.
Investigation report-
Upon arrival we were taken into the barn and watched a video of the event and history of the murder and family and home. We then went on a tour conducted by Mr. John Houser. He took us through the house and into each room and told us who was were and how they were found murdered. Then we were left to investigate the rest of the LONG ACTIVE night.
With in the first 5 minutes of the tour, a ball rolled out from under a bed and stopped directly in front of Bob. Bob is sensitive and so was another member of the group. They both felt many emotions as the night occurred. Sadness, Happiness, Depression, Fear, and possibly evil. We all had personal experiences. Anthony had someone touch his hand, Julz had someone touch her head, Herb got the chills in some spots as well as I did Roland also felt strange at a few points in the night.
We used the ghost box for most of the night, asking questions that were answered by many spirits in the house. The box said all of our names except for Herb. The box said Jenny…..Help me. I asked what I could do to help and got a response of blood, and sad.
The words that came out of the ghost box were
Blood
Torture
Get out
Out now
Out
Blackie, Henry, Frank, and Hank…These are names of suspects
Julz, Bob, Anthony, Roland, Jenny
Joseph, Sarah, Lena, Paul, Herman, Boyd
Not with me
These were all answers to some of our questions and then some words were just what the spirits said.
There was a point in the night around 11pm when the house got darker and colder and the box said “GET OUT NOW!” The 2 sensitives felt something strong that wanted control and wanted us out. Then all the children left. We took a break and the house then felt empty. That point we turned the box back on and were speaking to Sarah Moore and Joseph Moore, they validated who they were and answered a few questions. We have yet to go over all the hours of evidence, we did get a few videos of orbs flying by the cameras. Mind you the temp was 15 degrees out. Bugs are not what caused these orbs. We did get most of the talking of the ghost box recorded. It was a very active place, and an experience that I will NEVER forget. If there are people out there that do not believe in the afterlife, then maybe they should spend the night here! -Jen

Shadow anomaly on staircase (left) Face in closet (right)

Saturday Jan 10, 2009
Villisca Iowa
Axe Murder house

Bob Cross B.R.U.T.A.L. Paranormal Minooka, Illinois

Arrived at the house about 4:40pm
Watched video/slide show about the house and its residents, took tour of the house
started downstairs in the kitchen, then the parlor, the downstairs bedroom where I felt the presence of something but not very strong, continue the tour and went up stairs to the parents bedroom in which I felt a strong presence of something, as the guide continues to tell the story in the parents bedroom I went to the upstairs children’s bedroom and felt very heavy atmosphere when everyone else came in, the room became so heavy to me that I had to leave it so I went back to the parents room to wait on the rest of the group. The tour guide came in there and was telling me that he was feeling the same things as I was, then all of a sudden a ball comes rolling out from under the bed right to my feet, I immediately ask him if he kicked it and his response was NO, there was no one near him to see if he kicked it, if the ball was set close enough to the edge and hidden by the bed cover/blanket he could have very well kicked it and no one would have known, so to say that was paranormal there is doubt in my mind. I did feel the presence of a child standing to my right and I also had a feeling of happiness and good. I set the ball back under the bed
in a specific location and filmed it, later that night Roland and Julie were in the room sitting on the bed, the ball was at the edge of the bed on the floor covered by the blanket, when Roland sat down on the bed and moved his feet the ball came rolling out, I never told anyone I did this so I think it is very easy for the guide to set this up and make it look paranormal.

Now its time to start the investigation, when we all return to the house the first thing we found was a ball in the kitchen that was located in the northeast corner of the room on our tour, now it is in front of the hutch, no one was in the house after the tour, we tried to debunk this by placing the ball in different places on the floor then walking and jumping on the floor to get the ball to move and we could not duplicate it. So possible paranormal activity.
Roland and Julie were very intrigued with the Radio Shack hack box so we started upstairs in the parents bedroom, as we asked questions the names of Paul, Ina, Hank, came out several times, the name Boyd came out only 1 time, many, many, times upstairs I felt the children, Julie is also very sensitive and she also had the same feelings. I left them in the parents room to use the hack box and I went to the children’s bedroom. I could never get them to play ball or move anything but I just felt as if they were there with me.  Now its break time.
Breaks over and we start again, we continue to play with the radio hack box where we get more information out of it, this time they here the name Joseph, Paul, Ina and a child saying help me, we asked how many people were in the room and it replied 11, (that would be the 8 murdered and myself, Roland and Julie) we also asked who did this to you and they heard what sounded like Blackie, I myself could not make it out. As we get ready to wrap this session up we ask if they know who is here with them and the hack box replied Julie, my response was WHO IS JULIE ? at that time I did not know Julie’s name.
Roland intoduced her as Jewels to me so I didnt know her name was Julie. Break time.
Breaks over and we all decide to put the radio hack box in the parlor and all of us will stay there and ask questions and see how it answers, most of this i do not remember so Jen will have to fill this in. I am drawn to the children’s bedroom downstairs, I have terrible feelings in there and I ask Julie to come in there and tell me what she feels and she also has this terrible feeling, I was feeling sad, depressed, sicken, pain, grief, I wanted to cry. I asked what time did the murders take place and Jen said around midnight, Now if you take into consideration the time change 11pm in January would be midnight in June, I just know that was a very devastating point of time to me.  Then we decide to try the spirit writing and I say I will try so they take the hack box upstairs and everybody goes upstairs except myself. I try to do the writing but all I get is “GET OUT” over and over it becomes overwhelming so I stop and go upstairs with the rest of the group and I tell them what I’m getting, also at this time the hack box is telling them to get out. we all go downstairs to take a break and the hack box very sternly tells us to get out !!! I tell everybody do not leave, I go upstairs and proceed to tell the spirit we will not leave this is our house I am in control you will leave etc… Once I feel the spirit knows I am in control we go to break.
Breaks over and for the most part the house is empty to me, I feel nothing, Julie feels nothing, they play with the hack box upstairs and get a few more names and things from it but I got nothing, It did tell Roland his name when asked who am I, but
I was not there. For the rest of the night I am just exhausted mentally, I have had a headache, been sad, feeling exhausted, depressed, ever since the 11pm hour. Before we left I had everyone tal to the hack box and tell the spirits that they must go
back to the other that they can not follow us we waited for the OK which we did get. then we turned the hack box off and left.

Now I want to say this to the group, I do not know some of you, I want the entire group to understand that this investigation was very real, there was massive amounts of energy there. There was sadness, death, control, massive mood swings, a lot of pain and suffering. I did not feel any evil though. If you are weak minded and I DO NOT MEAN THIS IN A BAD WAY but most people are not as strong as myself please be careful with this stuff. I never beleived that a spirit could bring harm to a living human but after feeling the emotions and energy from this house I am having different thoughts about it. I feel that if you allow a spirit to control or take control you may get hurt and that is why I stopped everyone from leaving when it told us to get out. ALWAYS ALWAYS STAY IN CONTROL and pay very close attention to what is being told or felt. At the end of the investigation always tell the spirits to go back to the other side and not to follow you. Just do this for your own protection. I do know that spirits will follow you. I have had many do this to me. One day I hope to be able to meet all of you and do and investigation with all of you. MAYBE IN THE SUMMER ALL OF YOU CAN DO THE VILLISCA HOUSE and I promise I will be there again. One last word of advice PLEASE BE CAREFUL there is a lot to be learned and stay in control. -Bob

Herb Cook B.R.U.T.A.L. Paranormal Minooka, Illinois

Ok from the start of the tour I felt a heavy pressure in the house. Some places more than others. The house had a lot of energy in it. Base readings were at a 1.5-2.0 any thing over 2 would set off the lights of the EMF’s. It was really weird that, if you held the device straight up you got the base readings. If you held it sideways you pegged the meters. I have no reason to believe that they were not working. 4 devices all could not malfunction at once could they? I went for a walk outside. I walked to what I will call east first. I had to walk across the road and about 50 feet into the next yard. Before the E.M.F would not get a reading the same to the other directions. I was holding the meter straight up. We went into the basement to see if there may have been a power source. There was not any thing in there base reading = .03-1.3 straight up. sideways would make the meter go off. not pegged but really strong. In the house I did fell some sort of heavyness. Not a sick feeling or anything just heavy. I can’t explain it, you would have to be there. Now when John was taking us on tour. While I was in the upstairs bed room. Bob and John left the room. They were in the parents room. A ball came out from under the bed and stopped at Bob’s feet. Did it do it on it’s own?  I would like to think so. But every time I went back up there the ball was still in the same place under the bed. I would take a pic. every time and it was in the same place. Now when we were in the kids room down stairs. Me, Ro and julz were the only ones in the room. A ball rolled and hit Julz foot. Could have Ro kicked the ball. Maybe he said that he did not. I did not see him do it. But it was dark in there. So I can not say for sure. I have a few pics with orbs all different sizes. All over the place inside and out. I took a pic of the moon. and one showed up. As of the ghost box it seemed to answer questions as did the lights on the E.M.F.’s when Anthony asked questions. Do I believe in them? Maybe, I know that it seemed to work. It did answer some questions. Now for the very wierd part of the night. Ro’s camera went dead then all of a suden It would come back on. I do not think that a camera with a dead battery would  come back on. We asked that it turn it on and it did. I think that we should go back as a team. Really work the house half go in at a time. Since it is small. I have some pics with orbs in them. Yeah I know orbs right? I have searched to many sites on this place. I would have to say that every one of the sites has pics with orbs. So I am leaning toward these things being something. It was too cold for bugs outside. No snow or rain Just the biggest full moon of the year. -Herb

Roland “Ro” Saenz Midway Paranormal Romeoville, Illinois

This was the highlight of my night….
Much later on in the night we all decided to sit in the parlor, while using the ghost box, and decided to sit as a group and one by one ask “Do you want me to leave?” I was 5th to ask as everyone before me did not get a negative response. I decide to say “This is Roland,do you want me to leave?” We get a response “yeah”. Anthony then asks”Why do you want Roland to leave?” We get a response “yes”. He then asks “You don’t want Ro to leave the house do you?” Replies “yes”. Julz then asks who is this and whats your name?” Replies, “Mike”. Anthony again. “What did Ro do?” Response back “nothing.” I then ask “Why are you intimidated by me?” and the response came back as a faint “creepy.” I then ask why do you not like me? Few seconds goes by and then a very strong response of “Creepy”. I think in all it says the word “creepy” during this part of questioning 4 times. A spirit actually called me creepy! I thought that was one of the funniest things I have ever heard.
Now you ask if I personally believe in these ghost boxes? Well by the experiences I had there that night and hearing my name come through the box 3 times that night and hearing Julie’s name several times and getting a female response in regards to me asking can you say Ro and getting a response back right away as “Ro” then immediately I ask can you say “Julie” and within 3 seconds a female voice says “Juulll-ee” I was very impressed.

Now remember back in 1912 people dressed much differently and were very proper and men did not wear earrings,as I have a loop earring in each ear as well as I have my eyebrow pierced with a loop/hoop ring. I may have looked a little odd to someone from 1912.

As far as my photos, I cannot explain the images that I captured that night. One thing I do know is that we will return to that house again one day to once again confront what lies in the shadows of a house that sits forever in time known as the Moore home. -Roland

Bobby Mackey

Country Music star Bobby Mackey

Bobby Mackey’s World

by Annette Munnich

If you like your ghost stories to be factual as well as chilling to the bone, then I have the story for you. It’s intricate and multi-faceted like a black diamond, glistening and alive in it’s perpetual darkness. This is the true account of country and bluegrass music star Bobby Mackey and some of the history and experiences pertaining to his nightclub, Bobby Mackey’s Music World. Love and death linger intermingled in this structure with a well that is called the gateway to hell, and a stairway to heaven that leads to nowhere. The place in between is Bobby Mackey’s…

Bobby Mackey’s Music World is still open for business and going strong after 30 years. It’s located in Wilder, Kentucky which is actually on the outskirts of Cincinnati, Ohio. Just inside the door a sign warns visitors that the establishment is haunted and the bar is not responsible for any damages. In other words, enter at your own risk. There are more than 20 signed affidavits from police officers, employees and church leaders in regards to paranormal experiences at Bobby Mackey’s Music World. It is true that Bobby’s wife, Janet, does not go to the club any more and hasn’t stepped foot on the premises in years. Janet, who did not believe in ghosts, was physically pushed which resulted in a fall down a flight of outside stairs and told by a disembodied voice to “get out”. And she did. *** Update. Sadly Bobby Mackey’s wife Janet passed way February 15th, 2009.

This is how an ordinary place evolved into one of the most haunted sites in America.  There are two structures here. The bar itself was once a speak-easy with mob connections. The back building, at one time, was a slaughter house and the blood from butchered animals ran down the well and emptied into the Licking River.

Bobby Mackey's Wilder Kentucky

Bobby Mackey's Wilder Kentucky

A recipe for a nightmare

Building section one which is now the nightclub

Building one is the site where love meets murder and suicide. The lovely dancer Johanna falls in love with singer Robert Randall. Her disapproving father has Robert killed. Johanna fatally poisons her father. She then goes to a secret room above the stage, writes a poem on the wall and commits suicide taking her life as well as the life of her unborn child… The activity in this location includes the sound of a crying woman believed to be Johanna locked in eternal sorrow. Bobby wrote a song called Johanna that tells her tragic tale.

The nightclub building has very strong paranormal activity. That includes heavy objects being moved and even thrown, people being pushed, and full body apparitions. The jukebox plays the Anniversary Waltz even though the record does not exist on the playlist. It has the ability to play this song whether it’s plugged in or not.

Carl Lawason was a maintenance worker who lived in the apartment upstairs. Carl is also the person who discovered the well underneath the floor in building two, which he regrets to this very day. Carl reports hearing what sounded like an army walking across the downstairs (bar area) floor every morning at 6 am. He also saw apparitions in his apartment as well as feeling cold spots and other various paranormal experiences during the time he lived on premises. Carl’s luck ran out when he actually became possessed and a six hour exorcism was performed to save him. When Carl came back into consciousness from this he was trying to choke the pastor. An unexplained fire spread up the wall immediately afterwards. Carl can still feel the negative forces present at Bobby Mackey’s.

Building section two which was the slaughterhouse.

Love becomes murder, decapitation, execution and dark eternal promises… Rewind for a moment to the well that Carl Lawason found under the floor. What he also found there was a piece of a human skull. This is the story of a girl named Pearl Bryan who was murdered by her boyfriend Scott Jackson and his companion Alonzo Walling. Her body found in the river without a head. The police dogs follow a scent that leads to the well in the slaughterhouse. Her killers were caught, tried and sentenced to death. Jackson and Walling were the last two people ever to be hung in Campbell County. Before the execution Pearl’s murderous boyfriend vows to haunt the place forever. This is a promise he and his friend Alonzo seem to have kept.

Alonzo’s spirit has been seen in the nightclub building as well and is accompanied by a feeling of heat instead of cold. He is able to manifest and has strength enough to throw garbage cans.

There is only one way to make this entire scenario worse and that is reports of devil worshipers performing satanic rites at the site of the well, opening a portal between this world and hell. The walls are stained with dripping blood, where strange and sometimes grotesque faces can be seen. A few feet from the well, a simple wooden staircase ascends to nowhere, leading only to the ceiling. Is it a pointless mockery that none can escape the doom that is this place?

Bishop James Long

Bishop James Long

Bishop James Long

by Annette Munnich

Bishop James Long is a well known and respected person in the paranormal community. He does not investigate the paranormal however, he is a theologian and demonologist. Bishop James Long is presiding Archbishop of the United States Old Catholic Church, and can be found at St. Christoper Old Catholic Church in Louisville, Kentucky. He graduated from Loyola University in Illinois, and went on to  Saint Mary of the Lake in Mundelein, Illinois. It was during his time at Saint Mary of the Lake that he felt his calling to the Independent Catholic Church and was ordained a priest of the Old Catholic Church and elevated to the Episcopacy in April of 2006.

Bishop James had an interest in becoming a priest and studying demonology from a young age. He is very giving and kind natured. The Bishop does a great deal of traveling throughout the United States helping with demonic cases. He has performed and assisted with many exorcisms and truly has some bone chilling tales to tell as well as stern warnings for those who put themselves in danger from the darkside.

Bishop James was on the first episode of Ghost Adventures giving a warning to Zak Bagans about provoking evil spirits after Zak was attacked by malevolent forces at Bobby Mackeys in Wilder, Kentucky.

What is the Old Catholic Church?
The Old Catholic Church is an Independent Catholic Church that broke away from the Roman Catholic Church during the 1870′s over disagreement pertaining to Papal Infallacy. The Church today is non-discriminatory and permits women to be Deacons, Priests, and Bishops. The Church allows Priests to marry. Gays and Lesbians may be ordained and no one is discriminated against regardless of race, gender, sexuality, age or marital status.
St. Christopher Church

St. Christopher Church Louisville Kentucky

Bishop James Long  does his best to help and educate people on the subject of demonic entities and possession. He states that a demonic possession is for the purpose of the demon or demons to hurt their host body and ultimately cause them to commit suicide.

Some ways to recognize a demonic spirit…

A demonic spirit may try to disguise themselves as a ghost or even in particular a child spirit. The apparition will have a flaw such as no hands or no eyes. Demonic entities are extremely strong and can move heavy objects such as refrigerators while a human ghost is generally limited to about 15 pounds. The presence will have an aversion to prayer and activity will escalate when prayers are being said silently or aloud.

Ways that people become susceptible…

People sometimes put themselves in danger by playing with Ouija Boards or ghost boxes as they have no way of filtering the harmful from the harmless. He also adds that Demonic beings cannot spell and may pose as a child on a Ouija board as well. Other dangers include dabbling in black arts and demonic worship. People are sometimes put into danger by moving into a residence where the former occupants had these types of practices.

Bishop James recommends that people who may have demonic infestations immediately contact the Paranormal Clergy Institute and not try to fight the entities themselves.

Self help methods such as squirting Holy Water and cleansing rituals can sometimes make matters worse and more violent than they already are.

Shallow Graves Interview

by Annette Munnich December 2008

Recently I had the chance to ask Sean and Yvette Kelley some questions about their new and exciting magazine called Shallow Graves. Their premiere issue made quite a splash in the paranormal community. Editors Sean and Yvette put out a veritable smorgasbord of all things mysterious plus interviews, reviews and event coverage. I predict this mag will be very hot in 2009 and beyond.

The Interview

Annette: Can you please tell us about your new magazine, Shallow Graves?

Sean: Shallow Graves is for people interested in the world of the Supernatural & Unnatural, Unnatural being anything that isn’t normal or mundane.  We cover anything and everything that is in that realm.  From celebrities, musicians, artists, writers, events, anything we can find or comes and finds us.  It’s a cross between FATE Magazine and Fangoria.  We also include original short stories from today’s authors within our pages.

Annette:
How did each of you get interested in the Paranormal?

Yvette:
I have been interested in the paranormal since I was a child. My older sister passed away from cancer at age 9 and we swore we could hear her about in the house. My older brother Tom D’Agostino had always been into the paranormal and is very well known here in New England and I think a lot of my interest has also stemmed from him and places he would check out while we were growing up.
Sean: I have a very vivid imagination and I watched too many movies when I was little so things that go bump in the night still scare and fascinate me.

Annette:
How did the magazine get started?

Sean:
We went to Chicago to go to a CW’s Supernatural convention and we drove out.  On the way back home we talked about the event.  We already own a production company called King’s Feast Productions here in Rhode Island, where we’ve had a successful continuing run for the last 5 years, of a medieval dinner theater show called “The King’s Feast”.  We talked about how the convention was run and what went into it and some of the connections that Yvette made there.  It was something that extremely interested us.  A friend of ours came to Yvette about working for a magazine he was working with at the time and she had made some great headway with some big league actors, so she had the connections for interviews.  Well, things didn’t work out and Yvette still had these contacts and one night she looked at me and said “Screw this.  Let’s do it ourselves!”  We both love the Entertainment industry and the Paranormal so it seemed like a great fit for something new into the genre.
Yvette: Pretty much what Sean said.  I was landing interviews with stars from the TV series Supernatural and everything seemed to be falling into place. We just went with it and knew people who wrote and started making contacts and here we are today.

Annette: What has been your most bizarre or surprising experience so far?

Yvette:
Interviewing almost every cast member of the TV show Supernatural. I went to cover several Supernatural conventions and not only ended up covering them but literally working them as far as England. It has been an amazing experience thus far. I have now become friends with several of the actors from the show. People have to realize that they are no different than you or me they just have high profile jobs.
Sean: I don’t know if it’s bizarre, but to me it was extremely surprising.  I did an article with 8 Horror Hosts from around the US about the business and one of the questions I asked was “Are you a religious person?”  Just because I was curious since these people deal with a lot of “Supernatural/Horror” kind of movies and things and one of host explained to me that he had gone from being Wiccan to being Catholic.  I had never met anyone who’s done that before.  I’ve met a lot of people who went from Catholic to Wiccan, but not the other way around.  It always cracks me up thinking of it.  It was something I had never heard of anyone doing before.

Annette: Have either of you had any personal experiences with the paranormal?

Yvette: Just the one I explained earlier of hearing my sister after she passed. We had cubbyholes in our house where her stuff was stored and we could hear a lot movement in there at night. It freaked us out so much we had our mom put a lock on the door. It took my mom a long time but she was able to finally to finally let go and get rid of my sister’s stuff and after awhile the noises stopped.
Sean: The only experience I’ve had at this time is there is a mansion in Newport, RI called “Belcourt Castle”. The castle is known to be haunted with different things.  There is a room upstairs that has a mirror that is on a wall.  A bunch of us were in this room because we heard of the mirror.  If you go into the room, unless you’re extremely tall, you won’t be able to see yourself in this mirror because it’s high off the ground, but if you raise your arm you can see your hand in it.  Well, we’re standing about 10 feet away, because the area is roped off for tourists and we’re all raising our hands and you can see them in the mirror.  Then you see your hands in the mirror tilt from side to side, kind of like a fake “royal wave” that everyone goofs about, but your hand is not moving because you’re keeping it still.  The mirror isn’t moving; it’s against the wall and can’t move.  Your reflection is moving.  It happens all the time!  We were there during the day time and I’ve also been there during the night time and had it happen.

Annette:
What’s coming up in your next issue?

Sean: Right now we’re working on a few different things.  We’re looking at what we’re calling a “New Age of Horror Genre” with interviews with the stars of the new Friday the 13th   (Jared Padalecki) and My Bloody Valentine (Jensen Ackles, Todd Farmer) along with other cast members.  We talk with Edward Douglas of the band Midnight Syndicate who is releasing an independent movie called “The Dead Matter” that he did with Special FX guru Robert Kurtzman.   We’re working on an article with tattoo artist madman Brandon Bond of All or Nothing Tattoos who also does animal rescue and has a documentary of it coming out in the next month.  We also have interviews with Rex from The Avalon Apothecary about herbalism in today’s society. Plus, we hope to have more interviews with Supernatural stars both past and present. We’ve had a few submissions for some short stories that we’re looking at right now and interviewing an up and coming artists from France named Christine De Carvalho.  These are just a few things that we’re working on.  We’ve got some irons in the fire so we can’t really confirm a few other things yet, but we can assure you that they’ll be cool!

Annette: Thank you both and good luck with your magazine. I know it will be around for a long time!

Ghost Boxes…Fact or Fiction?

Personal Experience

I spent the majority of 2008 in the ghost box research community.  About a year ago I was present when Jeff Rezman did a demonstration at an ISPI meeting in Mommence, Illinois. This led to a fascination on my part as to what, exactly, the box was capable of. I met many ghost box and RTSC (real time spirit communication) researchers and was a member of the RTSC yahoo group owned by Steve Hultay. I became friends with many people in this field, and did an interview of Steve Hultay last May which can still be read on this website. During the course of my involvement I have listened to hundreds of audio files, and have participated in approximately a dozen sessions mostly over Skype. I was an observer and never at any time have I owned or operated a Frank’s Box, Joe’s Box, Radio Shack Hack, or any other variation on what is sometimes known as the “telephone to the dead.” I was a member of Frank Sumption’s Yahoo group as an observer and never actually talked to him. I do know Joe Cioppi (Joe’s Box) and Bill Chappell (Paranormal Puck and Ovilus) through e-mail correspondence.

Do these devices work?

I know it sounds crazy, and I know the ghost box is radio based and all sorts of sounds can come through, so it’s only logical to say that people are making words and sentences out of bits and pieces of radio transmission. I thought that too. In truth, from the bottom of my heart, with all great sincerity, ghost boxes do work. It’s like the white noise principle. The radio is set to constantly scan and verifiable communication has come through as well as swearing which is not allowed on radio broadcasts. (There are people doing RTSC research without ghost boxes using running water, fans, and other background noise to capture messages from the other side.)

The spirits become familiar with the researchers and will often make reference to Frank Sumption and others on differnent boxes all over the US and beyond (although this community is primarily in the US). Each researcher has what they call “technicians” which are spirits that normally come though for that researcher and give information as well as try to connect the researcher with others they are wishing to speak to. The technicians also give warnings when dark entities are coming which are sometimes referred to as “darkheads.” If a person gives a box they once owned to someone else the new owner may be faced with a barrage of questions as to where the previous owner has gone. A well known researcher in Mexico gets communication in English although the radio stations there are all Spanish.

I’d also like to mention here that Bill Chappell’s inventions, the Paranormal Puck and the Ovilus, are not radio based.

It’s not that simple however

Yes the boxes work. Do they always work? No. Can people easily make contact with anyone they wish to speak with? No. Do the spirits predict the future for you? Sometimes they will speak of current situations and immediate future but for the most part no. Will they tell you the secrets of the universe and the mysteries of life after death? The spirits are stingy with this kind of information and sometimes other spirits will interfere and cut off communication with a spirit who is telling too much. Do the boxes always speak the truth? No. Can you control who comes through your box? No. Do people listen too hard and matrix messages out of gibberish? Yes sometimes. Do spirits lie about who they are? Sometimes yes…

The best uses for ghost boxes

Ghost boxes and all related RTSC spirit communication devices are outstanding tools at haunted locations. Often the messages come through very clearly. Most researchers and operators begin each session with a prayer of protection (even the ones that say they don’t believe in God… I haven’t really figured that one out yet:) Some use ghost box technology to help deliver earthbound spirits to the other side. They work well at cemeteries too.

You must tell the spirits you are ending the session when you are done so they can go back over to the other side and wait for the technicians to tell you everyone is back. If you don’t you may bring them home with you. This happens even to the more experienced researchers. Common. In essence the box does not just allow you to speak to the dead it attracts them into your physical environment. It is common as well for ghost box people to have infestations of unwanted ghosts and shadow people in their homes. Even those that claim to be careful. Many researchers do not use the box in their home due to bad experience. I have heard stories that would make your skin crawl.

My conclusions

After months of backseat involvement my personal opinion is that the box works. It is also my opinion that it is not reliable. Three attempts were made to contact any one of my deceased relatives and all failed. Many spirits were present talking but no one I knew for sure.

Safety Issues

From my observation the boxes are very unsafe even in the hands of those who are very experienced. I believe they open a portal of sorts and are like an electronic ouija board as Rosemary Ellen Guilley has stated. There is no way to control who will enter your environment. The box opens a door to anyone and anything. The dangers are not limtied to unwanted spirit guests who don’t want to leave, or those who accompany you home from another location.

Secondary dangers include believing all messages coming trough the box to be true. Egomania occurs in many cases as the researcher feels special and privileged communicating with the dead. Full blown obsession with the ghost boxes is not uncommon. Spending more time with the dead than the living is not healthy for anyone.
