Ghost Boxes…Fact or Fiction?

Personal Experience

I spent the majority of 2008 in the ghost box research community.  About a year ago I was present when Jeff Rezman did a demonstration at an ISPI meeting in Mommence, Illinois. This led to a fascination on my part as to what, exactly, the box was capable of. I met many ghost box and RTSC (real time spirit communication) researchers and was a member of the RTSC yahoo group owned by Steve Hultay. I became friends with many people in this field, and did an interview of Steve Hultay last May which can still be read on this website. During the course of my involvement I have listened to hundreds of audio files, and have participated in approximately a dozen sessions mostly over Skype. I was an observer and never at any time have I owned or operated a Frank’s Box, Joe’s Box, Radio Shack Hack, or any other variation on what is sometimes known as the “telephone to the dead.” I was a member of Frank Sumption’s Yahoo group as an observer and never actually talked to him. I do know Joe Cioppi (Joe’s Box) and Bill Chappell (Paranormal Puck and Ovilus) through e-mail correspondence.

Do these devices work?

I know it sounds crazy, and I know the ghost box is radio based and all sorts of sounds can come through, so it’s only logical to say that people are making words and sentences out of bits and pieces of radio transmission. I thought that too. In truth, from the bottom of my heart, with all great sincerity, ghost boxes do work. It’s like the white noise principle. The radio is set to constantly scan and verifiable communication has come through as well as swearing which is not allowed on radio broadcasts. (There are people doing RTSC research without ghost boxes using running water, fans, and other background noise to capture messages from the other side.)

The spirits become familiar with the researchers and will often make reference to Frank Sumption and others on differnent boxes all over the US and beyond (although this community is primarily in the US). Each researcher has what they call “technicians” which are spirits that normally come though for that researcher and give information as well as try to connect the researcher with others they are wishing to speak to. The technicians also give warnings when dark entities are coming which are sometimes referred to as “darkheads.” If a person gives a box they once owned to someone else the new owner may be faced with a barrage of questions as to where the previous owner has gone. A well known researcher in Mexico gets communication in English although the radio stations there are all Spanish.

I’d also like to mention here that Bill Chappell’s inventions, the Paranormal Puck and the Ovilus, are not radio based.

It’s not that simple however

Yes the boxes work. Do they always work? No. Can people easily make contact with anyone they wish to speak with? No. Do the spirits predict the future for you? Sometimes they will speak of current situations and immediate future but for the most part no. Will they tell you the secrets of the universe and the mysteries of life after death? The spirits are stingy with this kind of information and sometimes other spirits will interfere and cut off communication with a spirit who is telling too much. Do the boxes always speak the truth? No. Can you control who comes through your box? No. Do people listen too hard and matrix messages out of gibberish? Yes sometimes. Do spirits lie about who they are? Sometimes yes…

The best uses for ghost boxes

Ghost boxes and all related RTSC spirit communication devices are outstanding tools at haunted locations. Often the messages come through very clearly. Most researchers and operators begin each session with a prayer of protection (even the ones that say they don’t believe in God… I haven’t really figured that one out yet:) Some use ghost box technology to help deliver earthbound spirits to the other side. They work well at cemeteries too.

You must tell the spirits you are ending the session when you are done so they can go back over to the other side and wait for the technicians to tell you everyone is back. If you don’t you may bring them home with you. This happens even to the more experienced researchers. Common. In essence the box does not just allow you to speak to the dead it attracts them into your physical environment. It is common as well for ghost box people to have infestations of unwanted ghosts and shadow people in their homes. Even those that claim to be careful. Many researchers do not use the box in their home due to bad experience. I have heard stories that would make your skin crawl.

My conclusions

After months of backseat involvement my personal opinion is that the box works. It is also my opinion that it is not reliable. Three attempts were made to contact any one of my deceased relatives and all failed. Many spirits were present talking but no one I knew for sure.

Safety Issues

From my observation the boxes are very unsafe even in the hands of those who are very experienced. I believe they open a portal of sorts and are like an electronic ouija board as Rosemary Ellen Guilley has stated. There is no way to control who will enter your environment. The box opens a door to anyone and anything. The dangers are not limtied to unwanted spirit guests who don’t want to leave, or those who accompany you home from another location.

Secondary dangers include believing all messages coming trough the box to be true. Egomania occurs in many cases as the researcher feels special and privileged communicating with the dead. Full blown obsession with the ghost boxes is not uncommon. Spending more time with the dead than the living is not healthy for anyone.
